State Sen. Kevin Rader declines to seek re-election, setting up a clash between a political vet and a newcomer

Slosberg, 72, said he was planning to run against Rader before the incumbent dropped his candidacy. Slosberg said his name recognition in the district and track record of public service will give him the edge. Slosberg served in the Florida House from 2000 to 2012. He made an unsuccessful bid for state Senate in 2016, losing to Jeff Clemens. When Clemens resigned because of an extramarital affair, Slosberg declared his candidacy in the special election. He withdrew and supported Berman.
