One man is dead and another is in the hospital following a collision involving a motorcycle in Dania Beach, the Broward Sheriff’s Office said.
The crash happened about 3:15 p.m. Saturday in the 200 block of E. Sheridan Street, as Lawrence Johnson, 24, of Hollywood, stepped off the median and tried to cross the street, investigators said.
He ended up in the path of Davonte Gray, 25, of Dania Beach, who was riding a 2019 Kawasaki Ninja motorcycle westbound in the far right thru lane of Sheridan Street, officials said.
The front of the motorcycle struck Johnson and then fell onto its left side, ejecting Gray, and sliding onto a grassy swale, investigators said.
Both Johnson and Gray were taken to Memorial Regional Hospital in Hollywood. Johnson died at 6:11 p.m. Gray was admitted for observation, officials said.
Investigators believe that speed, mechanical malfunction, impairment and environmental conditions were not contributing factors but they are continuing their investigation.
They are asking anyone with information to contact Traffic Homicide Detective Michael Wiley at 954-321-4840 or Broward Crime Stoppers, anonymously, at 954-493-8477 or online at browardcrimestoppers.org.
