Pembroke Pines police on Thursday identified the man who was shot to death in a residential community in January. He was 18-year-old Ameer Mustafa.
Mustafa was gunned down in the pre-dawn hours of Jan. 14 in the Cobblestone residential community, which is immediately west of Interstate 75 and accessible only from Pines Boulevard to the north and Pembroke Road to the south.
Investigators continue to search for the shooter who struck at about 4:58 a.m. where Southwest Seventh Street dead ends at Southwest 147th Terrace in the neighborhood of townhomes, police said.
Police were responding to reports of shots fired when they found Mustafa suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, said Amanda Conwell, spokeswoman for Pembroke Pines police.
Entrances into the community were immediately closed, police established a perimeter and a helicopter was called out to help in the unsuccessful search for a suspect, police said.
Mustafa died at the scene, Conwell said. It was four days shy of his 19th birthday.
A reward of $3,000 is being offered for tips that lead to an arrest, Broward Crime Stoppers announced on Thursday.
