XXXTentacion’s month-old son Gekyume was huddled in his mom Jenesis Sanchez’s lap as Sanchez made her first public appearance, in a TV interview with WPLG Ch. 10, since giving birth to the late Broward County rapper’s baby.
Born at West Boca Medical Center on Jan. 26, the baby was mostly covered up during the Monday TV interview — but what’s believed to the first publicly released photo of little Gekyume was unveiled on Instagram on Tuesday morning.
Posted by XXXTentacion’s friend DJ Scheme, Gekyume is shown wearing a black onesie with what appear to be the words ‘Bad Bad Bad’ on it with his hands covered in dinosaur-themed mitts.
The baby’s resemblance to his late father is obvious.
In the TV interview, Sanchez, 20, told WPLG she looks forward to telling the little boy all about his late father, whose legal name was Jahseh Onfroy.
She also explained the boy’s unusual first name, saying that it was a name made up by Onfroy, and that it meant a “different state or next universe of thought,” Sanchez said.
Onfroy, 20, was shot and killed in an apparent robbery attempt as he was driving out of the parking lot of Riva Motorsports in Deerfield Beach on June 18, 2018. According to reports, he had just learned a few weeks earlier that he was going to be a father.
Onfroy, who had been facing charges in connection with the alleged assault of a former girlfriend, was one of the biggest-name young rappers in the music world and in the months before his death had seen his album ‘?’ reach No. 1 on the Billboard 200 albums chart.
Prior to that, his 2017 release, ‘17,’ had debuted in the No. 2 spot. In December 2018, his posthumous release ‘Skins’ also went to No. 1 on the Billboard albums chart.
After his death, thousands of fans packed a memorial service and public viewing of the rapper’s open casket at the BB&T Center.
