The boy accused of making the threat “recanted his statements” later on, said Det. Ali Adamson, a spokesperson for Fort Lauderdale Police.

He faces charges of making a false report concerning planting a bomb or explosive weapon and disrupting the functions of an educational institution.

The school was evacuated “in the abundance of caution,” Adamson said.

The police Bomb Squad and K-9s swept the school before students returned to class.
