A woman was found stabbed to death in a Dania Beach apartment early Monday morning, and a man who lived at the apartment complex where she was found later died at the hospital, deputies said.
Someone called 911 shortly before 2 a.m. Monday about a man and woman arguing inside an eight-floor apartment in the 600 block of East Dania Beach Boulevard, the Broward Sheriff’s Office said in a news release Tuesday.
A neighbor called to report that another neighbor was “yelling for help” in an apartment on the eighth floor, according to first responders’ radio communications archived by the site Broadcastify. Another person called and said they heard fighting and shouting. At some point, one of the neighbors told first responders they no longer heard the woman, only a man screaming.
When deputies arrived at the apartment, they found Dareika Chery, 36, of Lauderhill, inside. She had been stabbed multiple times and was pronounced dead there, the Sheriff’s Office said.
Deputies found Chris Little, 42, in the hallway of the fifth floor. He lived at the complex, according to the Sheriff’s Office, but it was not clear whether he lived in the apartment where Chery was found dead.
Little was detained and then taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The Sheriff’s Office did not provide additional information. The Homicide Unit’s investigation is ongoing.
Florida Department of Corrections records show Little had previously been convicted of drug-related charges, burglary with assault, aggravated battery of a pregnant victim and false imprisonment in Broward County. Little had forced his way into the Coral Springs home of an ex-girlfriend who was pregnant with his child and beat and choked her in May 2010, according to a probable cause affidavit in the case.
