Hurricanes star Rueben Bain Jr. set to play against Cal, Mario Cristobal says

Miami coach Mario Cristobal said star defensive line Rueben Bain Jr. will be back on the field for the Hurricanes’ road game against Cal on Saturday.

“Rueben is a go this week,” Cristobal said on WQAM’s The Joe Rose Show on Monday morning.

Additionally, Cristobal said starting left tackle Jalen Rivers will be a “game-time decision.” Rivers played the entirety of Miami’s season-opener but has not played since.

Bain took part in some warm-ups before UM’s win over Virginia Tech on Friday but did not play.

“He looked great,” Cristobal said. “It was right kind of at the edge right there. We chose the route to guarantee his well-being and his health as best we could.”

Bain has missed nearly the entire season so far with what Cristobal has described as a “soft-tissue injury.” He left Miami’s season-opener on the first drive of the game and has not returned since.

Bain was last year’s ACC Defensive Rookie of the Year after racking up 44 tackles, 12.5 tackles for loss and 7.5 sacks.
