This is “Small Bites,” a South Florida Sun Sentinel feature with tiny tidbits on the food and beverage scene — because we know that sometimes you just don’t have room for a long article. You want a little news brief instead, an amuse bouche of information, if you will. Enjoy!
WHAT:
In what may be a perfect pairing, a Caribbean museum here in SoFlo is going all mango with a festival for the fabulous fruit.
The inaugural Island SPACE Mango Festival is being stage by the similarly-named Island SPACE Caribbean Museum at Broward Mall in Plantation.
Mango enthusiasts — Mango-philes? Mango-ites? Mango-fangos? Mango-maniacs? — will have the chance to sample and buy from a wide selection of varieties and savor culinary creations (we’re talking mango breads, tarts, cakes, preserves, chutneys, ice cream and other sweets, juices, smoothies and more).
You will also be able to browse home and beauty products made from … you guessed it … mango, including lotions, candles, soaps and oils. Horticultural experts will conduct workshops on how to grow and care for mango trees at home.
“The Island SPACE Mango Festival is a celebration of the beloved mango and its cultural significance in the Caribbean,” said Mandy Laguerre, the museum’s manager. “We are thrilled to provide a platform where the community can come together to enjoy, learn about, and appreciate the many uses and benefits of this incredible fruit.”
