Nearly 20 inches of rain fell in multiple cities across southern Broward over the last two days, with some areas breaking records, forecasters say. More is to come Thursday.
The hardest hit city over the past 48 hours was Hallandale Beach, closely followed by Hollywood. The latest rainfall totals show flooded Hallandale with 19.39 inches and Hollywood with 19.10. Residents in those cities continued to wade through flooded streets and stranded cars Thursday morning. Meanwhile, North Miami surpassed the 20 inch mark.
Davie was also high on the list with 17.97 inches. Other cities that experienced severe flooding saw slightly less than their counterparts when it came to total rainfall over the last 48 hours: Fort Lauderdale saw 12.64 inches and Dania Beach had 10.65 inches.
Much of Fort Lauderdale’s rain occurred over only one day. On Wednesday, the waterlogged city set a new record for the most rain in one day during the month of June with 9.54 inches, surpassing the previous record for that same day in June of 5.47 inches back in 1978.
Still, Wednesday did not come close to surpassing the record-breaking deluge from April 2023 in which the city saw 26 inches of rain in one day, most over the course of seven hours.
