A Broward Sheriff’s Office deputy was hospitalized early Tuesday morning after two prisoner transport vehicles and a civilian vehicle crashed in Pompano Beach, officials say. Over 50 prisoners were on board the two vehicles.
The crash occurred about 5:30 a.m. near West Atlantic Boulevard and North Andrews Avenue in Pompano Beach, according to a Sheriff’s Office media release. Deputies and Pompano Beach Fire Rescue responded and paramedics transported the deputy to a nearby hospital with non life-threatening injuries.
The release did not say which vehicle crashed into which or why the crash took place.
No other injuries were reported, but seven prisoners were also taken to the hospital as a precaution, according to the release. A prisoner transport van carried seven of the prisoners and a bus carried 45. Workers hauled the white van onto a tow truck early Tuesday.
Broward Sheriff’s Office Pompano Beach District deputies are investigating the crash.
