A Broward Sheriff’s Office deputy died by suicide early Tuesday in Pompano Beach, the Sheriff’s Office said.
Deputies were called shortly after 4 a.m. and found the adult man with a gunshot wound near 2300 Bay Drive, Veda Coleman-Wright, a spokesperson for the Sheriff’s Office, said in an email. The deputy, whose name has not been released, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Coleman-Wright said a local law enforcement agency was investigating the deputy in an off-duty incident. He had worked for the Sheriff’s Office for four years and was not on duty when he died.
“Our immediate concern is for his family and co-workers, ensuring they have the resources and support they need to process this tragedy,” she said.
Additional information has not been released.
