Fort Lauderdale police investigating two fatal shootings

FORT LAUDERDALE — Homicide detectives are investigating two shootings that killed two men Friday night and in the early hours of Saturday morning in Fort Lauderdale, police say.

The shootings are not believed to be related.

The first shooting occurred shortly before midnight Friday in the 1600 block of Northwest 13th Court, said Casey Liening, a spokesperson for Fort Lauderdale Police.

Police responded to a Shotspotter alert and found a man with gunshot wounds. Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue transported him to Broward Health Medical Center, where he later died.

A few hours later, around 6 a.m. Saturday morning, police responded to a 911 call about a shooting in the 700 block of Northwest 22nd Road, where they found another man who had been shot.

He was pronounced dead on scene.

Police have not released either victim’s identity, Liening said. Homicide Unit detectives are actively investigating both shootings, and encourage anyone with information to contact the Fort Lauderdale Police Department immediately.
