Will Hurricane Ian hit Fort Lauderdale? Here’s the latest forecast path

The Fort Lauderdale area and the rest of South Florida are outside the forecast cone for Hurricane Ian, the National Hurricane Center said. But the region can expect heavy rainfall and strong winds from Tuesday through the day on Wednesday from the outskirts of the storm.

The system is strengthened into a hurricane Monday morning. A portion of the west coast of Florida from Port Charlotte north to Clearwater, including Tampa and St. Petersburg, is under a hurricane warning. The storm is forecast to be a major hurricane — Category 3 of higher — in the early morning hours of Thursday when it is near Tampa Bay.
