‘Spider-Man’ charged with robbery and resisting arrest in Hollywood

HOLLYWOOD — A man dressed as Spider-Man attacked and robbed a woman in Hollywood about two hours after he allowed her to take his picture because she liked his outfit, police said.

About 11 p.m. Monday officers responded to a 911 call regarding a possible robbery near Dixieana Street and Federal Highway, according to Hollywood Police.

A 58-year-old woman told police a man riding a bicycle and dressed in a Spider-Man outfit hit her in the head with a blunt object and robbed her of $45.

Lequan Steven Payne, 36, was arrested by Hollywood Police later Monday night.

The victim said she was at a laundry facility about 7:45 p.m. when she saw the man in the Spider-Man outfit. She asked if she could take his picture, and he complied. Police said she showed them pictures of Payne sitting on his bike in the Spider-Man outfit with a timestamp of 7:45 p.m.

After she finished her laundry, the woman was walking to a friend’s house when she was hit in the head from behind. When money fell out of her pocket, Payne picked it up and left, police said.

While on the phone with a 911 operator, the woman reported seeing Payne on his bike.

Police found Payne and arrested him after he initially disobeyed their commands.

Payne was being held on a $6,000 bond at the Broward Main Jail on charges of robbery and resisting arrest without violence.
