Short-lived Tropical Storm Mindy weakens to a depression as activity heats up in the tropics

As of 5 a.m. Thursday, Mindy was 80 miles south-southeast of Valdosta, Georgia, moving northeast at 20 mph with maximum sustained winds of 35 mph, forecasters said. Tropical-storm-force wind gusts are possible across parts of southeastern Georgia, according to the National Hurricane Center.
