Jones represents a mostly Black district in South Broward and northern Miami-Dade County, and has championed racial justice. A Democrat, he is well-liked by members of both political parties in Tallahassee. He was elected to the Senate in 2020 after eight years in the Florida House of Representatives. Though in the minority party in his first term in the state Senate, he’s regarded highly enough by his colleagues in the majority Republican Party that he serves as vice chairman of the Education Committee.
