DeSantis refuses new state eviction moratorium, but CDC extends federal ban for 2 months

In April, only 50 evictions were filed with the Orange County Clerk of Court, down dramatically from the 1,101 in January and the 868 in February, according to data from the Shimberg Center for Housing Studies at the University of Florida. DeSantis’ ban remained in place until July 29, when he altered it to allow eviction filings but stop tenants from being forced out. With that change, August saw more eviction filings than the previous four months combined.
