While Broward’s average cost of housing an inmate is $164 a day, that figure is based mostly on fixed costs that don’t change if the number of inmates goes up or down. The $50 a day that ICE will pay for each detainee will more than cover the flexible daily costs, such as for meals and health care, officials said.
