According to the Glenn H. Curtiss Museum, Curtiss is considered the founder of the American aircraft industry. While the Wright Brothers made the first successful flight of a manned aircraft, the public did not view that 1903 flight. Curtiss, on the other hand, made the first publicly observed flight in America in 1908, according to the museum. He won numerous speed races and completed record-setting flights.
