“A drowning can happen to anyone, regardless of their age, race, gender, socioeconomic status or swimming capability,” Stewart said. “Never swim alone; what if something happens to you in the water? And at the beach, always swim in front of a lifeguard. Talk with your children and have safety rules in place that you enforce.”
