Best things to do with the kids this weekend: Star Wars, air show and more

We all know how the saying goes — “April showers bring May flowers.”

Whether it’s rain or shine this weekend, there are plenty of family-friendly events going on in South Florida.

Star Wars fans will be observing their “national holiday” across the globe on Saturday — Star Wars Day. And even though you won’t find it on a calendar (yet), there are local events going on for your little Rey or Luke Skywalker. And remember, “May the 4th Be with You!”

Star Wars Force Academy, Saturday, 4 – 5:30 p.m.

Meet Me in Midtown presents Disney’s “Coco,” Friday, 6:30 – 9:30 p.m.

Meet in the breezeway (between Nordstrom Rack and West Elm) for a celebration of all things Mexican. Fit Kids Day, Saturday, 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.

Spring Fest 2019, Sunday, Noon – 3 p.m.

Fort Lauderdale Air Show, Saturday and Sunday

The schedule will be packed with two days of near-sonic booms and high-flying somersaults, aerial loops and barrel rolls, and paratroop demos and air-and-sea races. Headlining this weekend’s event will be the U.S. Navy Blue Angels, whose elite demonstration team of six F/A-18 Hornet fighter jets will make their first Air Show flyover since 2006. Located on Fort Lauderdale Beach on State Road on A1A north of the Sunrise Blvd intersection. Tickets are available for additional viewing spots.
