An apartment fire that significantly damaged one unit at a Lauderhill apartment complex and caused water damage to others early Wednesday may have been a case of arson, according to preliminary reports.
Lauderhill Fire-Rescue was called to the fire on the second floor of The Parkwest Apartments on the 1900 block of Northwest 46th Avenue about 2:30 a.m., officials said.
There were no immediate reports of injuries and residents of nearby apartments were evacuated as firefighters put out the fire.
Officials at the scene told WPLG-Ch.10 that early evidence suggests the fire may have been intentionally set. Police had earlier been at the fire-damaged unit for a domestic call and the two residents living there were not present when firefighters arrived, the station reported.
Lauderhill police remained at the apartment complex during the early morning hours Wednesday.
