A weekend boating party turned tragic for a Lighthouse Point couple and a Fort Lauderdale woman who died after their center console boat crashed into the north jetty at Government Cut inlet in Miami Beach, a state official said.
Killed Saturday night were Christopher Colgan, 56, and Elisaine Colgan, 38, who would have turned 39 on Sunday.
Rescue crews recovered their bodies from the jetty, Florida Fish & Wildlife Conservation Commission Officer Ronald Washington said Monday.
The body of Jennifer Munoz Cadavid, 28, was found Monday near the jetty, Washington said.
Troy Forte, 37, of Juno Beach, survived the crash and paramedics took him to Ryder Trauma Center at Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami.
Cadavid, whose social media accounts say she was from Colombia, was married to Fort Lauderdale real estate broker Ron McCord. The wedding happened about two years ago in Nevada, his Facebook page showed.
“She was a young, beautiful woman, with her whole life ahead of her,” McCord said Monday. “Florida was a favorite place for her.”
The boat, a 32-foot center console Cape Horn that had a colorful blue and green hull, struck the south side of the north jetty, Washington said.
Government Cut is a major commercial and recreational marine thoroughfare and leads to the Port of Miami.
In photographs from the crash, the boat’s bow appears damaged. The vessel appeared to have flipped over onto the rocks.
The FWC is investigating the incident.
Elisaine Colgan was a state licensed real estate broker. She and her husband are survived by a teenage son.
“I’m just shocked. I don’t understand any of it,” Chris Colgan Jr., 16, told WSVN-Ch. 7. “I just feel terrible. I feel like I’m in a nightmare, and I can’t wake up.”
The crash happened at the same jetty where Miami Marlins pitcher Jose Fernandez died in 2016. Two other men died with Fernandez in that early morning crash: Jesus Macias, 27, and Eduardo Rivero, 25.
