Thief tests stolen card before getting cold feet, cops say

He was able to buy a $1.44 candy bar using a stolen debit card, but it didn’t work when he tried to get a $205 gift card minutes later, so he took off. Now the Broward Sheriff’s Office says its deputies are looking for the car burglary suspect.

The Wells Fargo debit card that he used was stolen about 5 a.m. March 22 during a car burglary in the 1400 block of Avon Lane in North Lauderdale, investigators said.

The driver’s side window of a 2013 Nissan Sentra had been shattered and the debit card was missing from a woman’s handbag, officials said.

About an hour later, surveillance video showed the alleged thief walking into the Walmart Supercenter, at 2300 W. Atlantic Blvd., in Pompano Beach.
