He emerged from the bushes, fired a shot at a car, demanded the keys, but then ran away and Boca Raton police said they know who they are looking for.
James Sidney Friedman, 59, of Pompano Beach, has been identified as the armed carjacker, investigators said, and they believe he drove away in a pickup truck before switching to a red and black 2008 Kawasaki 1400 motorcycle bearing a Florida tag number MEI-I38.
Police are circulating a picture of Friedman with the hope someone will recognize him and report his whereabouts.
The failed carjacking happened about 3:30 p.m. Wednesday in the 900 block of North Federal Highway, police said.
A couple had just parked and a woman got out of the car. She was walking toward a building when the gunman came out of some bushes and fired a shot at the closed window on the driver’s side of the vehicle. No one was injured, investigators said.
The man at the wheel refused to leave the vehicle and the carjacking suspect ran off, police said.
Investigators are asking anyone who knows where Friedman is to call 911 immediately and do not approach him. Anyone with information about this case can contact Detective Darryl Kingman at 561‐620‐6096.
