Two people were killed and four others injured in a violent weekend crash in Deerfield Beach when a car veered across a road into oncoming traffic.
The Broward Sheriff’s Office Tuesday identified those involved in the four-vehicle collision that happened shortly before 6:30 p.m. Saturday on the 4300 block of West Hillsboro Boulevard.
Driver Breanha Free-Baker, 17, of Coral Springs, and her grandmother Robyn Underwood, 61, of Plantation, died in the crash.
The teen’s mother, Michele Free-Baker, 40, of Coral Springs; Andrea Schneider, 21, of Deerfield Beach; and Melanie Perozin, 22, of Coconut Creek, were taken to Broward Health North Medical Center for treatment of injuries that were not life-threatening, officials said. Another person, Janis Farese, 54, of Boca Raton, was treated at the scene of the crash.
According to investigators, Schneider lost control of the Dodge Avenger she was driving and veered across the eastbound lanes of West Hillsboro Boulevard, crossed over the raised center median and struck three vehicles in the westbound lanes — the Nissan Altima driven by Breanha Free-Baker, a Chrysler 200, and a Hyundai Sonata
Witnesses and evidence indicated the Dodge was speeding at the time, the sheriff’s office said.
Investigators ask anyone with information about the crash to contact Broward Sheriff’s Office Detective Anthony Morales at 954-321-4840.
