It was after business hours when fire broke out at a recycling plant in Deerfield Beach.
Shortly before 11 p.m. Tuesday, firefighters were called to a scrap metal fire at Capital Scrap Metal, 1610 S. Powerline Road.
“Firefighters were met with a large volume of fire encompassing a large mass of metal debris some 25 to 30 feet high,” said Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue Battalion Chief Michael Kane, spokesman for the agency.
It took about 30 minutes to get the fire under control but crews remained on the scene most of the night so heavy machinery could be used to pull the debris apart so the fire could be fully distinguished.
There were no reported injuries and the cause of the fire isn’t known, Kane said.
