Detectives have tracked down the man they said was responsible for a deadly hit and run after he tried to elude them long enough to conceal evidence by having his damaged pickup truck repaired.
Michael David Green, 68, of Boca Raton, was arrested Friday and charged with leaving the scene of a fatal accident and tampering with evidence, records show.
The arrest came shortly after investigators circulated pictures of Green and his 2006 gray Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck that had some minor damage on the front passenger side.
That damage was caused when Green struck Grigoriy A. Berkolayko, 60, of Deerfield Beach, the Broward Sheriff’s Office said.
Berkolayko was hit about 7:20 p.m. March 8, as he was walking east across North Federal Highway near a crosswalk at Northeast Eller Street in Deerfield Beach, detectives said.
Berkolayko was taken to Broward Health North medical center where he died of his his injuries the next day, investigators said.
Witnesses told detectives the truck slowed down and almost stopped before turning west on Northeast Eller Street, officials said.
Traffic homicide investigators were asking anyone with any more information about the fatal hit and run to contact Detective Anthony Morales at 954-321-4840.
