You may need to have the luck of the Irish to navigate downtown Fort Lauderdale this weekend.
Street barricades will start popping up at 9 a.m. Friday along East Las Olas Boulevard to begin preparations for the city’s St. Patrick’s Day parade and related events taking place on Saturday. They won’t come down until midnight Saturday, officials said.
Among the Friday road closures:
- Southeast First Avenue from E. Las Olas Boulevard to the south side of the FAU/BC Tower parking lot driveway will be closed from 9 a.m. Friday to midnight Saturday.
- E. Las Olas Boulevard from Andrews Avenue to Southeast First Avenue will be closed from 10:30 a.m. Friday to midnight Saturday.
Saturday road closures affecting local residential and business traffic include:
- E. Las Olas Boulevard from Andrews Avenue to Southeast 16th Avenue and narrowed lanes from Southeast 16th Aveue to the west side of the drawbridge over the Intracoastal Waterway from 7-9 a.m. Saturday for the Shamrock Run.
- E. Las Olas Boulevard between Southeast First and Southeast Eighth Avenues will be closed from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.
- Andrews Avenue from Las Olas Boulevard to Southwest Second Street.; W. Las Olas Boulevard from Andrews Avenue to Southwest First Avenue; Southwest First Avenue from Las Olas Boulevard to Southwest Second Street; and Southwest Second Street from Andrews Avenue to Southwest Second Avenue will be closed from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.
Motorists should expect traffic congestion and delays through intersections along and around the E. Las Olas Boulevard parade route.
Residents who live inside a closed area will still be allowed access to their homes but may need to follow marked detours.
