A pedestrian lost his race with a Brightline train Thursday night and was killed while trying to cross railroad tracks in Hollywood, authorities said.
The 43-year-old man was struck about 6:30 p.m. while trying to beat the train at Garfield Road and Dixie Highway, said Battalion Chief Chris Del Campo, spokesman for Hollywood Fire Rescue.
The man’s body landed near Hayes Street, a block south of where he was hit, Del Campo said.
The man died at the scene where a passer-by said he saw the body lying under a sheet as police put up crime-scene tape.
More than a dozen people have died after being hit by Brightline trains since test runs were done in July 2017. Nearly half of the deaths have been ruled suicides.
