Eight days after the pickup he was driving plunged into the Middle River in Lauderdale Lakes, the 73-year-old man who was hospitalized after the crash died, officials said Tuesday.
A passer-by spotted the partially submerged white Ford F-250 about 7:30 p.m. on Feb. 22 after it drove east along the 3000 block of Northwest 47th Terrace, through the parking lot of the Lauderdale Oaks community, off the pavement, onto the grass, and into the water, the Broward Sheriff’s Office said.
Firefighters pulled Benoit Forisma from the fully submerged vehicle and began performing CPR before taking the Sunrise resident to Florida Medical Center. According to investigators, blood tests confirmed Forisma was driving under the influence at the time of the crash.
He remained at the hospital until succumbing to his injuries on Saturday, officials said.
