There was nothing up his sleeve — except for a baseball bat.
A man who initially appeared to be a customer at a Metro PCS store turned into a robber after pulling out a baseball bat that had been concealed in the left sleeve of his jacket.
The robbery happened shortly after 2:30 p.m. Feb. 13 at the cellphone store at 1499 SE 17th St. in Fort Lauderdale.
Surveillance video released by police Monday shows the man chatting up the clerk behind the counter before quickly pulling a pink, aluminum baseball bat from his sleeve and “demanded the cashier to hand over the cash in the cash register,” Fort Lauderdale police said.
With the bat still in his left hand, the video shows the man impatiently leaning toward the cashier as she complies with his demand. He then walks out of the store holding the money and the bat.
Police have not disclosed the amount of money that was taken.
The robber is described as being 30 to 35-years-old, about 6 feet tall and weighing about 155 pounds.
Investigators ask anyone with information about this robbery or the thief’s identity to call Fort Lauderdale Police Detective Leann Swisher at 954-828-5746 or contact Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-8477 or at browardcrimestoppers.org.
