Eating eggs can raise risk of heart disease, research finds

The latest U.S. research on eggs won’t go over easy for those who can’t eat breakfast without them. Adults who ate about 1 ½ eggs daily had a slightly higher risk of heart disease than those who ate no eggs. The study showed the more eggs, the greater the risk. The chances of dying early were also elevated. The researchers say the culprit is cholesterol, found in egg yolks and other foods, including shellfish, dairy products and red meat. The study focused on eggs because... Read More

It’s getting tougher for Broward County families to find a rent they can afford. 18-wheeler plunges from deadly I-95 ramp leaving driver critically hurt

Drivers who try to maneuver too fast through the tight interstate exits to State Road 84 are risking their lives — and at least six have died there since 2007. And early Friday, another driver’s life was threatened in a violent crash of his 18-wheeler. Speed is usually a major cause of such crashes, said Barbara Kelleher of the Florida Department of Transportation. “It’s a hard right angle on both the northbound and southbound sides,” Kelleher said Friday. “It’s usually speed,... For the third time in three weeks, threats of a weapon on campus at Dillard High led to a lockdown and police search on Friday at the Fort Lauderdale school. A 911 caller had claimed there was an armed person on campus, but gave the wrong school information and really meant Lauderdale Lakes Middle School, Liening said. As a precaution, police searched the school located west of Interstate... Read More

The big question that remains is whether those videos — taken by police during their human trafficking and prostitution investigation — will ever be released to the public. If attorneys for dozens of men arrested on prostitution charges get their wish, the answer will be no. “This is going to be a slugfest, so to speak,” said criminal... Read More
