Police say the suspect, later identified as Jacob Gellar, had pistol-whipped his mother then barricaded himself inside a room in the penthouse unit. His mother was able to escape, but Gellar’s grandparents and a home health aide were still inside when officers got to the scene at 3211 S. Ocean Blvd., near Linton Boulevard and US-1.
