In addition to supermarkets, the division inspects manufacturing, wholesale and distribution facilities for listeria and other known contaminants, such as salmonella and e. coli. In 2017, it inspected 34,096 food establishments and dairy facilities statewide, according to the most recent annual report of the state Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, which oversees the food safety division.
