A woman was arrested Wednesday after a road rage shooting on Interstate 95 near Boca Raton that left a man hospitalized with serious injuries, the Broward Sheriff’s Office said.
Breanna Evans, 26, is now facing two counts of attempted murder, one count of shooting into an occupied vehicle, and one count of shooting from a vehicle, jail records show.
Evans did not know the victim, whom the Sheriff’s Office has not named.
“At this point in the investigation, this incident appears to be a case of road rage,” BSO spokesperson Claudinne Caro said in a statement Thursday.
The shooting happened a little after 4:30 p.m. in the northbound lanes of the interstate between Palmetto Park Road and Hillsboro Boulevard, Caro said.
Someone called 911 reporting an accident and being shot in the head on the interstate just south of Palmetto Park Road in Boca Raton, according to first responders’ radio transmissions archived by the site Broadcastify. At least two vehicles, including a box truck, were involved.
Helicopter video from WSVN-Ch.7 showed a black SUV that appeared to have its passenger-side window shot out and a bullet hole in the white box truck.
When first responders arrived, a man was standing outside of one of the cars with blood on the front of his body, according to the radio transmissions.
Boca Raton Fire Rescue took one person to a hospital as a trauma alert, a spokesperson said.
Lt. Indiana Miranda, a Florida Highway Patrol spokesperson, said the Broward Sheriff’s Office is leading the investigation and could not provide further information.
