Hey, all you Parrotheads: Here are the Jimmy Buffett Day celebrations planned this month in South Florida

Jimmy Buffett is a big deal here in Florida.

So much so that last year the Florida Legislature officially designated Aug. 30 as Jimmy Buffett Day, about a year after the tropical rock singer-songwriter passed away.

It’s no surprise then that South Florida is getting ready to celebrate Buffett and his musical legacy this month with everything from trivia and costume contests to a free beach bash concert.

After all, while Key West may have been Buffett’s creative incubator and musical muse, let’s not discount Broward, Palm Beach and Miami-Dade counties.

There are multiple SoFlo connections: For starters, the Jimmy Buffett Day bill was introduced by Broward’s Lauren Book, the former Senate minority leader. And Buffett’s Broadway jukebox musical “Escape to Margaritaville” actually kinda-sorta got its start here, with a Coconut Grove Playhouse revue that sparked interest from producers for a Great White Way show.

Parrotheads (the proud moniker for Buffett fans) also know that the Rock & Roll Hall of Famer loved our sports franchises and had three homes in Palm Beach. And we’ve got one of the largest resorts in the Margaritaville brand located right here in Hollywood beach.

Wastin’ Away on the Waterfront: A Clematis by Night Jimmy Buffett Tribute
6-9 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 28

This free event will feature the Parrot Head Party Band (led by Greg Pitts) onstage, as well as limbo and trivia contests. There will also be island-inspired food and drink vendors — and a margarita bar. The City of West Palm Beach will give free cheeseburgers throughout the night to 100 people.

There will be a free beach bash concert with Adventures in Parrotdise playing Jimmy Buffett tunes. There will also be a costume contest and margarita blender-bike competition. As part of Cocktail for a Cause, a portion of sales of the “Who’s to Blame” margarita will go to Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital, in keeping with Margaritaville’s brandwide Day of Service. There will also be a “Keep the Party Going” resort package from Aug. 29 to Sept. 1.

At this event, enjoy a costume contest and music performances by Cape Universal Band and Spred the Dub as well as headliner, the Jimmy Buffet tribute band, The Caribbean Chillers. There will also be food and beverage vendors. General admission tickets are $20 for adults (bring your own lawn chair), $5 for children age 12 and younger, and free for guests age 2 and younger. VIP tickets cost $60 and include seating, lounge and dedicated bar access, and a drink ticket.

The Pompano Beach Cultural Center will host a Jimmy Buffett Tribute concert with the Changes In Latitude band at 7:30 p.m. March 5, 2026. The venue is at 50 W. Atlantic Blvd., Pompano Beach. Tickets starts at $59. Go to pompanotheater.com.
