Yelp names ‘Top 100 U.S. Ice Cream Shops 2025’ — and No. 2 is a Coral Springs creamery

A beloved suburban strip-mall scoopery, Let’s Chill Homemade Ice Cream in Coral Springs, has notched the No. 2 spot in Yelp’s list of “Top 100 U.S. Ice Cream Shops 2025.”

Meanwhile, a pair of The Magic Cow shops in Davie and Coral Springs ranked No. 10 and No. 96, respectively, in the crowdsourced review website’s national roundup announced on July 1. No shops in Palm Beach or Miami-Dade counties received recognition.

Loathe as we are to give credence to yet another Yelp listicle, it is National Ice Cream Day on July 20, the swelter shows no signs of slowing, and we think everyone deserves to cool off with a sugar-coated daydream.

Touting ice-cream flights and adults-only boozy flavors, Let’s Chill is the creation of husband-and-wife owners Cristina and Ricardo Braga, both U.S. Army veterans who opened their shop in 2022. (Ricardo Braga is also a Broward Sheriff’s Office lieutenant.)

Instead of dyes and artificial additives, Let’s Chill relies on purple carrot, beet juice, spirulina, annatto, and turmeric to tint its treats. Year-round flavors include Caramel Crunch, Guava, Bourbon Butter Pecan, Vanilla Caramel Praline and Honey Lavender, while its summer seasonal flavors include Key Lime, Ube, Coconut, White Chocolate Blueberry and dairy-free Pomegranate Sorbet.

Yelpers shouted out the shop’s four-flavor flight of Mudslide, Margarita, Bailey’s and “20 out of 10” Rum Raisin (with real rum-soaked raisins) paired with housemade waffle chips, plus “creamy dairy-free flavors made with coconut milk” and clear labeling of allergens for each flavor.

Let’s Chill is apparently a Yelp accolade magnet, holding its No. 2 ranking ever since the 2023 edition of Yelp’s “Top 100 U.S. Ice Cream Shops.” (No ranking took place in 2024.) In May, the Bragas also earned a spot on Yelp’s “Top 100 Local Businesses 2025” national ranking.

But back to ice cream … The other Broward winner on the list is a two-fer: The Magic Cow, which picked up accolades in Davie (No. 10) and Coral Springs (No. 96.). The sugar shack comes from married owners Andy and Alison McKnight, who have a combined 40 years in the ice-cream biz and also sell sundaes, milkshakes, cakes, cupcakes, cups and cones.

Magic Cow has Instagram-worthy neon signs and a “great selection of mix-ins” for its 30 rotating flavors, which include Buttered Popcorn, Belgian Chocolate, Green Apple and cow-less vegan options, Yelpers say.

With all due respect to the winners — who are all deserving — we’re hung up on Yelp’s odd ranking system. For example, why champion two locations of the same business when literally thousands of scoop shops exist throughout the country?

The platform says “Yelp editors” curated the list by tallying “a number of factors, including the total volume and ratings of reviews,” to say nothing of the shops’ popularity off the Yelp platform.

No. 2 Let’s Chill has a 4.9 rating on the site with 368 reviews, while No. 10 Magic Cow Davie has an identical 4.9 rating with 885 reviews. Meanwhile, shops like Jaxson’s Ice Cream Parlor in Dania Beach (with a 4.0 and 2,100+ reviews), Cherry Smash Ice Cream in Coral Springs (no slouch with a 4.6 and 880 reviews) and Lily’s Handmade Ice Cream (4.4 with 172 reviews — and the 2024 Sun Sentinel readers’ choice winner for best South Florida ice cream) didn’t make the list.

Maybe we should just chill out. Even so, take this ranking with a generous scoop of ice-cream salt — and, this summer, go patronize as many creameries as you like.
