Defending Rep. Moskowitz’s stock trades | Letters to the editor

Your front page recently carried a screaming headline about U.S. Rep. Jared Moskowitz trading in stocks.

One had to read down to the fifth paragraph before you said that he did nothing wrong. (How many readers will read beyond the headline?)

Remember that several members of Donald Trump’s administration who, by sheer coincidence they would have us believe, dumped stocks just before Trump announced tariffs (including Attorney General Pam Bondi).

Where was that story? I thought the Sun Sentinel was better than that.

Don’t single him out

I just read the Sun Sentinel article about Rep. Moskowitz and I am confused about the point of it.

It would appear that all members of Congress are at fault, except Moskowitz, for not timely reporting their stock trades.

Yet your article singles him out for what appears to be shady behavior for adhering to the rules.

I don’t know him, and I don’t live in his district. However, I find the article an attempt at pointing a finger at something that assuredly other members have done, especially the president and his Cabinet, by lining their own pockets.

A president worth admiring

Yes, I am in favor of deporting illegal criminal immigrants once they have received due process.

I am also in favor of a president who understands that it’s not only illegal immigrants committing murders and who doesn’t feel the need to lash out and denigrate others who speak or write negatively of him. I favor a president who cares about the middle and lower classes, not just the wealthy, and who surrounds himself with people who are experts in areas they have been chosen to lead.

I am in favor of a president who doesn’t threaten to decimate much needed programs such as Medicaid and USAID and who, by his actions and words, is respected by foreign countries — not only by those with whom he engages in non-U.S. related business.

Finally, I’m in favor of a president who reveres this country and our Constitution and understands that it was built by immigrants — people who came here seeking a better life and have contributed so much to this country and the world.

Shells of their selves

The news media, as we knew it, died a slow death starting under President Bill Clinton. In the Obama years, the media lost all pretense of impartiality by cheering for our first Black president rather than telling the truth about his failings, especially in foreign affairs and budgeting.

We’re now learning more about the media from the media via confessionals from media pillars who staunchly supported Biden’s presidency. We now see that the traditional media prefers a leftist narrative that parrots its own beliefs.

Journalism is dead. Our universities are shells of their former selves. Hollywood is a bloat of bad themes and violence and our love of family and country and morality are on life support. Only a revival of what the Founders propounded as truths and sound beliefs can save us. It’s a question of whether we have the fortitude to succeed.
