Episode 6: George and Florence
Doubts about George Altidor’s alibi can’t stop the case from going cold. But when a young detective reopens the investigation, he uncovers a stunning revelation about George’s new life. As the grieving family of Theresia, Marie, Samantha, and Sabrina pushes for justice, the question remains: Will the truth ever be uncovered?
On April 30, 1997, the day the bodies of Theresia Laverne and Marie, Samantha and Sabrina Altidor were discovered, Florence Daudin (below) was in the crowd that had gathered in front of the Altidor home. George Altidor told investigators that Florence was a friend from church and that he had been at her house the night before the murders to try to fix her air-conditioning system. WATCH: A television news reporter spoke briefly to Florence Daudin in front of the Altidor crime scene and confirmed that George Altidor had been at Florence’s house the previous night and had planned to return on the day of the murders. The clip never aired, but was part of footage archived at Miami-Dade College. Daudin references “Cheri,” which was George Altidor’s nickname. (Wolfson Archives)

George Altidor married Florence Daudin in the spring of 2001. Four years later, the couple purchased this five-bedroom, four-bathroom home for nearly a half-million dollars in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma — about 14 miles southeast of Tulsa.

Volumes of evidence from the Altidor case, collected over nearly 30 years, is stored in the Miramar Police Department’s property and evidence building. (Mike Stocker/South Florida Sun Sentinel)

Marie Altidor and her daughters, Samantha and Sabrina, are buried in a family grave in Dade Memorial Park in Opa-locka, Florida, about 9 miles from their home in Miramar where they were murdered. The husband and father of the victims, George Altidor, made the decisions about the burial arrangements and left a blank spot on the headstone for a fourth name that was never added. Marie’s mother, Theresia Laverne, was buried in her home village of Thomonde, Haiti. (findagrave.com)
