Two hospitalized after rescue from burning home in Wilton Manors

A man and a woman were hospitalized after firefighters rescued them from their burning home in Wilton Manors on Wednesday afternoon.

911 callers reported the home in the 500 block of Northwest 21st Street ablaze shortly before 1:30 p.m., said Frank Guzman, a spokesperson for Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue.

Firefighters arrived within minutes and saw heavy fire in the home’s car port area, spreading inside the home, Guzman said. They found the man and woman, who lived in the home, and pulled them to safety.

Both were taken to the trauma center at Broward Health Medical Center in Fort Lauderdale, but Guzman said he did not know their conditions at the time they were rescued from the home or their conditions at the hospital.

The blaze burned through the roof over at least half of the home, which is now mostly destroyed, Guzman said. Crews were still trying to extinguish the flames about 2:30 p.m.
