Hollywood Police officer injured in shooting spurred by a ‘neighbor dispute’

A Hollywood Police officer was hospitalized after a shooting Thursday morning.

Hollywood Police Department spokesperson Christian Lata said law enforcement responded to a 911 call about a “neighbor dispute” about 9:30 a.m. near the intersection of North 66th Avenue and Eaton Street.

The officer, whose identity has not been released, met with the caller, and a “physical altercation” broke out between the two, which led to the officer firing a gun, Lata said.

The officer has since been taken to a local hospital, but Lata did not say how bad the injuries are.

Though the case is still in the “preliminary stages of investigation,” Lata said this was an isolated incident and there are no other suspects at large.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating. The Hollywood Police Department did not provide any other details about the cause of the dispute.
