A U.S. Navy sailor from Miramar has died in a non-combat incident in the Red Sea.
Over the weekend, the Department of Defense announced the death of Aviation Machinist’s Mate 2nd Class Oriola Michael Aregbesola, 34, of Miramar.
The incident occurred on Wednesday aboard the USS Mason and is under investigation.
According to the Department of Defense, the USS Mason was deployed to the U.S. 5th Fleet area of operations, as part of the Dwight D. Eisenhower Carrier Strike Group. It had been operating in the area since November.
