9 hospitalized, including 4 children, after carbon monoxide poisoning in Margate home

Nine people were hospitalized with possible carbon monoxide poisoning early Thursday morning after using a gas generator inside of their Margate home, officials say. Four of them are children.

About 2:30 a.m., the Margate Fire Department responded to a call about an unresponsive person at a home in the 4900 block of Southwest Fifth Court, according to Chief Roberto Lorenzo.

When first responders arrived, they found a gas generator being used inside. They began ventilating the home and evacuated the residents.

Paramedics transported nine people, five adults and five children, to various local hospitals with possible carbon monoxide poisoning, Lorenzo said. All of them are in stable condition.
