Video: Detectives search for group of vandals targeting a Parkland home as acts escalate

PARKLAND — They started by throwing beer cans and eggs at the Parkland home. Last week, they turned to fireworks.

A group of unknown minors has targeted the same home in the quiet neighborhood along Majestic Trail three times now, the Broward Sheriff’s Office said in a news release, their acts of vandalism growing increasingly violent.

But it remains unclear who the vandals are and why they chose that particular home; the release doesn’t say. The Sheriff’s Office is asking the public for help identifying them.

The series of incidents began at 3 a.m. on a Saturday in early July, when the group arrived at the home in the 10000 block of Majestic Trail and threw beer cans into the home’s backyard and swimming pool, according to the release.

Less than a week later, they returned just before midnight and threw eggs into the backyard. Witnesses saw three minors flee in a golf cart, the release said. They were laughing.

Last Friday, over two months after the first two incidents, the group returned, a little after 10 p.m. This time, they threw a firework at the rear of the home. It exploded while a family was inside, the release said, causing damage. The release does not elaborate on the extent of the damage.

Surveillance video shows a boy approach the home, then stop to light the firework before throwing it over the fence, next to a small playground. A few seconds later, a loud blast can be heard as the firework explodes somewhere off camera.

The investigation remains active as detectives try to identify the suspects involved.

Anyone with information is asked to contact BSO Parkland Detective Erick Quigley at 754-240-6950, submit a tip through the SaferWatch app, or contact Broward Crime Stoppers anonymously at 954-493-TIPS (8477).
