Crane collapse shuts down southbound I-95 in Broward County

A construction crane collapsed late Monday morning on Interstate 95 in Broward County, injuring two construction workers and forcing the closure of the southbound lanes in Fort Lauderdale.

The southbound interstate between Oakland Park Boulevard and Interstate 595 will remain closed until further notice, the Florida Highway Patrol said about 5:30 p.m.

The collapse took place about 10:45 a.m. in a construction area just south of Sunrise Boulevard, according to FHP spokeswoman Indiana Miranda

“95 continues to be shutdown … Waiting on equipment to remove existing crane,” FHP said in an update about 4 p.m.

The two injured construction workers were taken to nearby hospitals. Their names and conditions were not released.

The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating.
