
MELBOURNE, Fla. – The Sunshine State Conference announced the Player of the Week for the week of September 19-25. Luana Grabias (Women’s Soccer), Thomas Flower (Men’s Swimming), Sasha Maslova (Women’s Swimming), all were recognized for the first time in the 2022-23 season.
The Sunshine State Conference Players of the Week awards are presented by Courtyard Marriot.
Grabias collects Offensive Player of the Week following goals against St. Thomas and Tampa last week. In a 3-1 win at St. Thomas, the junior knocked in the eventual game-winner in the fifth minute. She carried the ball from the 50 through multiple defenders before beating the keeper. In a 2-1 win against Tampa, Grabias scored the equalizing goal in the 75th minute, ultimately helping NSU improve to 3-1-0 in SSC play.
Flower, earning his first SSC Swimmer of the week award, was recognized following his performance in four events for NSU in a dual meet against NCAA Division 1 Florida. The Englishman finished fourth in the 200-yard freestyle (1:41.84), fourth in the 100-freestyle (45.30), and anchored the Sharks to a second-place finish in the 400-freestyle relay (3:06.78).
Maslova is named Swimmer of the Week following her performance in four events for NSU in a tri-meet against NCAA Division 1 Florida and Arkansas. The Russian placed sixth in the 200-butterfly (2:04.19), fifth in the 100-butterfly (56.72), and eighth in the 200-IM (2:08.68). Maslova also teamed with Celina Marquez, Savanna Best, and Bethany Weber in the 200-medley relay. The weekly award is the sixth of her career.
