Southbound Interstate 95 at Atlantic Boulevard in Pompano Beach is shut down while the Broward Sheriff’s Office investigates after a theft, chase and crash.
According to a BSO news release, a theft occurred about 11 a.m. Friday at a business on West Hillsboro Boulevard in Deerfield Beach. While at the scene, investigators say, the suspect attacked a deputy and fled.
Deputies pursued the suspect, and the chase ended on southbound I95 just north of Atlantic Boulevard, where the suspect was detained and taken to a hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
Drivers are asked to avoid I95 in the Pompano area and find alternate routes to avoid the massive backups. As of 2:30 p.m. Friday, all southbound interstate lanes remain closed until further notice.
