NBA player Marcus Morris arrested at Broward airport on Las Vegas warrant

NBA player Marcus Morris Sr. was arrested at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport on an out-of-state warrant on Sunday, court records show.

Morris, 35, was taken to the Main Jail to be held on an arrest warrant out of Las Vegas for a fraud-related charge, a Broward County Sheriff’s Office arrest form shows.

He remained in the Broward County jail without bond as of Monday afternoon. A court hearing is scheduled for Tuesday morning.

Details about the allegation against Morris were not immediately known.

Morris most recently played for the Cleveland Cavaliers in the 2023-24 season. In his 14-year career, he has played for the LA Clippers, the Boston Celtics, the Phoenix Suns, the Philadelphia 76ers, the New York Knicks, the Detroit Pistons and the Houston Rockets.

His twin brother, Markieff Morris, plays for the Los Angeles Lakers and previously played for the Miami Heat. In a post on X Sunday night, Markieff Morris addressed his twin’s arrest.

“They got y’all really thinking bro did some fraud s—,” he wrote. “They could have came to the crib for all that. When y’all hear the real story on this s— man. All I can say is Lesson learned. Bro will tell y’all tomorrow. This weird s— gave me a headache. Can’t stop nothin!”

Yony Noy, Morris’s NBA agent who is based in South Florida, wrote in a post on X that the arrest was “absolute insanity!”

“Just so everyone understands this is zero fraud here or whatever crap outlets have said regarding fake checks or whatever the hell,” he wrote. “This is due to an outstanding marker with a casino. Apparently if you have over $1,200 they can issue a warrant for your arrest.”

Spokespersons for the Clark County District Attorney’s Office in Las Vegas did not respond to an email seeking further information about the charge against Morris. A spokesperson for Las Vegas Metropolitan Police said the police department was not involved with the investigation and directed questions to the district attorney’s office.

Attorney information was not available Monday.
