The 27-year-old man who crashed his car into a canal near Mack’s Fish Camp in western Broward County on Wednesday night and died has been identified as a Hialeah resident.
Ramiro Gomez-Diaz, of Hialeah, was driving a 2007 Chevy Tahoe shortly before 9 p.m. Wednesday near the 18000 block of Krome Avenue when he veered off the road and crashed into the water, the Broward Sheriff’s Office said.
Weston deputies and divers, the Missing Persons Unit, Marine Patrol and the Unmanned Aircraft Systems Unit, which uses drones, went to the scene and found the submerged car that night, the Sheriff’s Office said. Gomez-Diaz’s body was found early Thursday morning by one of his relatives who went to the canal to look for him.
Investigators do not know what caused Gomez-Diaz to crash into the water. There were tire marks leading to the canal, and detectives found a bumper and headlight floating in the water, the Sheriff’s Office said.
